Lace front wigs are one of the newest innovations in hairpieces available to the general public. They have been used for many years by entertainers who can afford to spend thousands of dollars for hairpieces. Technological advances have enabled manufacturers to offer lace front wigs at more affordable pieces; instead of selling lace front wigs for $5,000 to $10,000, vendors are now charging from $500 to $2,000 for custom made wigs. The lace used as the base for the wig is what makes the lace front wig virtually undetectable once it is applied. Strands of hair are knotted by hand onto a fine lace base; the knotting technique results in a wig that can be parted anywhere as well as be worn off the face and in a high ponytail. The lace front wig is secured to the client’s head with an adhesive-either a liquid glue that is safe for use on the skin or toupee tape. When removal is desired, a skin safe solvent is used to soften the adhesive so the wig can be taken off. Most clients are able to wear a lace front wig for about two weeks before having it removed, shampooed and reapplied. |
