There are two main types of strand extensions- (1) fusion and (2) tipped hair. Both methods use a keratin adhesive to bond together with small sections of the client’s hair with small pieces of hair extensions. With the fusion method, loose (bulk) hair is utilized. The keratin adhesive is added to the desired amount of loose hair which is then fused with a section of the client’s hair of the same size. When using tipped hair, the keratin adhesive is already attached to the hair extension. The adhesive is softened with a bonding tool, and then the hair extension can be fused with a section of the client’s hair. Strand extensions services are very time intensive; it can take up to eight hours to complete a full head of strand extensions. This type of extensions can be worn for up to four months with diligent maintenance.
